Wife on a Dime

Laundry Room Project

Anyone else have that one room you hate being in because it’s always a mess? For me that’s my laundry room. I hate doing laundry more than any other chore so you bet I hid my laundry for this post. 🤣 For real though, maybe having a cuter laundry room will motivate me to actually fold clothes. I started by painting the pocket door “Obsidian” by Better Homes & Gardens. I’d originally painted it gray years ago and it was all scratched up and dingy. It really pops now and matches my kitchen.

To keep things real with ya, here’s some before pictures of how unorganized the one cabinet I have for storage is. I have no linen closets so sheets and rugs have to go in here with light bulbs and laundry stuff.

I pulled it all out and started consolidating bulbs. You wouldn’t believe how much room these take up in your cabinets.

I ended up putting them in clear kitchen organizers so I could see what I have and use less space. I also used those containers for other laundry items.

Lazy Susan’s are great for areas in cabinets like this. I put my swiffer pads, dryer sheets, plastic cleaning gloves, stain remover, steamer, and a piggy bank for all the coins I find in the wash on it so I can grab what I need.

The jar I have my dryer sheets in is actually a repurposed BH&G candle jar that I added a knob to. All I did was drill a while in the wood and the knob is from Hobby Lobby.

I used old clean plastic drawers from one of those Sterilite containers to fold my sheets and pillow cases in. Cheap and functional idea. I also made the space above the cabinet functional by using this basked for extra paper towel storage.

I added this round gold mirror to make the room feel bigger and brighter. It’s huge and looks expensive but it was only $58. It would be the perfect size for a bathroom too.

I put my laundry detergent pots in this metal container so I don’t even have to open the cabinet to start a load. I’m with this new outdoor lantern that comes with a flameless candle with timer. I love the black and I’m honestly tempted to paint that back wall to match it. The gold mirror would pop too! Should I??? 😍

On the opposite wall we have a deep freezer that I often fold clothes on so had to make it cute too. The big “basket” is actually a plant stand I found in the garden department but it’s so perfect for laundry or storage. The little propagation vase is a new outdoor item too! The rest are old items I already had.

I found this modern looking rug to bring in more of the black tones I’m loving and Kiwi seems pretty happy with it too. It matches the curtain panel I hung behind the glass door to keep guests from seeing my piles of unfolded clothes. 🤣 I just mounted a small curtain rod on the door frame. It’s not the fanciest thing but it works.

BH&G has great hamper options as well. I believe mine is sold out but I’ll link the new one I ordered as well as some different styles. I love ones on wheels so you can roll it.
